Procedure

A solution of 4-(tert-butoxycarbonylmethylthio)-8-(2,6-dichlorobenzoylamino)-3-ethoxycarbonylquinoline (140 mg) in 4N solution of hydrogen chloride in ethyl acetate was allowed to stand for 1 hour at ambient temperature. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate. The solution was washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated in vacuo to give 4-carboxymethylthio-8-(2,6-dichlorobenzoylamino)-3-ethoxycarbonylquinoline (110 mg).
