12.3 parts of 2, 2',4,4'-tetrahydroxybenzophenone are dissolved in 150 parts absolute ethanol. After adding 7 parts potassium carbonate and 17.1 parts benzyl bromide, the mixture is heated on reflux overnight. After cooling to room temperature the crystals are filtered off and washed with 300 parts ethanol and dried. The compound of Example 10 has the following formula: ##STR16## Yield: 19.8 parts (92.5% of theory). Melting point: 140-142° C.
