To a solution of 2,2-dimethyl-6-trimethylsilanylethynyl-chroman-4-one (Compound 261, 4.05 g, 14.87 mmol) in 60.0 mL of MeOH was added K2CO3 (410.9 mg, 2.97 mmol) The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 24 hours, diluted with EtOAc (100 mL) and washed with H2O and saturated aqueous NaCl, and dried over Na2SO4. Concentration of this solution under reduced pressure afforded 2.71 g (91%) of the product as a tan solid. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ: 8.01 (1H, d, J=2.2 Hz), 7.56 (1H, dd, J=2.2, 8.6 Hz), 6.90 (1H, d, J=8.6 Hz), 3.02 (1H, s), 2.74 (2H, s), 1.47 (6H, s).
