To a stirred solution of 261 (0.5 g, 1.54 mmol) in dry THF, cooled to 0° C., n-BuLi (0.118 g, 1.85 mmol) was added drop wise and continued stirring for 10 min. Then DMF (0.224 g, 3.08 mmol) was added to the reaction mixture while stirring for another 2 h. After completion of the reaction, it was quenched with saturated ammonium chloride solution. The organic layer was separated and aqueous phase was extracted again with diethyl ether, the combined organic layer was dried over sodium sulphate and concentrated to get the crude compound 6-(1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-hydroxypropan-2-yl)picolinaldehyde 262.
