The mixture of 1-(3-isopropylphenyl)ethanone (5.8 g, 0.036 mol), (S)-2-methylpropane-2-sulfinamide (5.2 g, 0.043 mol) and Ti(OiPr)4 in THF was stirred at 90° C. for 16 hours. Then the mixture was poured to water and the solid was filtered, the filtrate was partitioned between EtOAc and water. The layers were separated and the organic layer was washed with water, brine, dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated. The residue was purified by column chromatography to give the titled compound.
