Referring to FIG. 38, phosphorous oxychloride (323 μL, 3.46 mmol) was added dropwise to (S)-benzyl 3-methoxy-2-((S)-3-methoxy-2-(((5-methyl-2-oxo-1,3-dioxol-4-yl)methyl)amino)propanamido)propanoate (1.46 g, 3.46 mmol), 2-methylthiazole-5-carboxylic acid (248 mg, 3.46 mmol) and pyridine (1.07 mL, 10 mmol) in DCM (20 ml) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 3 hours, diluted with 1N HCl, and extracted with DCM. The organic layer was separated, dried (Na2SO4) and evaporated. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography to give the product as a white solid (346 mg, 22%).
