7-Cyanoindole (1.0 g, 7.0 mmol) was stirred in DMF (10 mL) at 0° C. Sodium hydride (60%, 310 mg, 7.7 mmol) was added, and the reaction stirred 30 min at rt. SEM-chloride was added, and the reaction stirred 16 h. The solution was concentrated in vacuo and purified by silica gel chromatography (10-40% EtOAc/hexanes) to give 1.5 g (78%) of the title compound as a clear oil. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.85 (dd, 1H, J=7.9, 0.9 Hz), 7.56 (d, 1H, J=7.5 Hz), 7.26 (d, 1H, J=6.3 Hz), 7.17 (t, 1H, J=7.7 Hz), 6.62 (d, 1H, J=3.3 Hz), 5.79 (s, 2H), 3.58 (t, 2H, J=8.1 Hz), 0.92 (t, 2H, J=8.2 Hz), −0.05 (s, 9H). [M+H] calc'd for C15H20N2OSi, 273. found 273.
