To a solution of 4-((benzyloxy)methyl)pyrrolidin-2-one (836 mg), 3-iodo-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole (856 mg), copper(I) iodide (80 mg) and tripotassium phosphate (1.7 g) in cyclopentyl methyl ether (20 mL) was added N1,N2-dimethylethane-1,2-diamine (87 μL). The reaction mixture was stirred at 120° C. for 22 hr, and diluted with ethyl acetate, and saturated aqueous ammonium chloride solution was added thereto. The extract was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound (1.1 g).
