Procedure

A mixture of 2,2-dimethyl-6-nitro-2H-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one (300 mg, 1.35 mmol, 1 equiv), 1-bromo-2-methoxyethane (0.32 mL, 3.38 mmol, 2.5 equiv.) and Cs2CO3 (880 mg, 2.70 mmol, 2.0 equiv.) in 6 mL of DMF was heated to 60° C. and stirred at this temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was then partitioned between EtOAc and water. The organic layer was separated and concentrated. The residue was purified by column chromatography using a mixture of EtOAC/hexane (1:4) as eluent to give the product as a clear oil (quantitative yield).
