Procedure
51 g (0.4 mol) N,N-diisopropylethylamine, 72.5 g (0.57 mol) 2-bromoethanol and a spatula tip of potassium iodide were added to 50 g (0.24 mol) 2,2,4-trimethyl-7-methoxy-1,2-dihydroquinoline. The solution was stirred for 24 hours at 110 to 120° C. The organic phase was subsequently washed with dilute sodium hydroxide solution and water and dried over sodium sulfate. The solvent was then completely removed by distillation. A light-green oil was obtained as the product.
