Combine 1-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl)-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(2-methanesulfonyloxyethyl)pyrrolidine (1.0 g, 2.0 mmol), 4-(1-(2-ethoxyethyl)-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)[1,4]diazepane hydriodic acid salt (1.2 g, 2.2 mmol), and N,N-diisopropylethylamine (1.4 mL, 8.1 mmol) in acetonitrile (60 mL). Heat to reflux. After 20 hours, cool and dilute the reaction mixture with ethyl acetate. Extract three times with a saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution, and then brine. Dry the organic layer over Na2SO4, filter, and concentrate in vacuo to obtain a residue. Chromatograph the residue on silica gel eluting with 25% methanol/ethyl acetate containing concentrated aqueous ammonia 20 mL/3 L to give the title compound: Rf=0.49 (silica gel, 30% methanol/ethyl acetate).
