Procedure
Combine 1-(t-butoxycarbonyl)-4-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)[1,4]diazepane (0.54 g, 1.71 mmol), and sodium hydride (0.87 g, 3.48 mmol) in dimethylformamide (10 mL). After 30 minutes, add 2-(isopropoxy)ethyl mesylate (0.51 g, 5.5 mmol). Heat to 80° C. After 2 hours, cool the reaction mixture to ambient temperature and partition between dichloromethane and a saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution. Separate the layers and extract the organic layer with brine. Dry the organic layer over MgSO4, filter, and evaporate in vacuo to give 1-(t-butoxycarbonyl)-4-(1-(2-(isopropoxy)ethyl)-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)[1,4]diazepane.
