Procedure
To a solution of 10-[(4-chlorophenoxy)acetyl]-10,11-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo[2,1-c][1,4]benzodiazepine-3-carboxylic acid of step A (0.33 mmol) in dichloromethane (3 mL) was added a drop of N,N-dimethylformamide followed by oxalyl chloride (0.532 mmol). After stirring for 0.5 hour at room temperature, the solution was heated to reflux for three hours. The solvent and excess oxalyl chloride were evaporated to yield the crude product, which was used without further purification.
