A mixture of 1-(1-chloro-6-methoxy-4-phenylisoquinolin-3-yl)-N,N-dimethylmethanamine (75 mg), 1 mL DMF, and MeSO2Na (41 mg) was stirred at 80 C for 48 h, then at 100 C for 96 h. The solution was cooled and purified directly by reverse-phase HPLC to give the titled compound.
