Ammonium formate (1.80 g, 28 mmol) and 10% palladium on carbon (0.180 g) were added to a solution of tert-butyl (2R)-2-{[(7-(benzyloxy)-3-{[(2,2-dimethylpropanoyl)oxy]methyl}-4-oxo-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-5-yl)oxy]methyl}pyrrolidine-1-carboxylate (1.58 g, 2.8 mmol) in ethyl acetate (30 ml) and the mixture stirred at 70° C. for 24 hours. The mixture was filtered through Celite and then evaporated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography eluting with a 0 to 10% mixture methanol in dichloromethane to give tert-butyl (2R)-2-{[(3-{[(2,2-dimethylpropanoyl)oxy]methyl}-7-hydroxy-4-oxo-3,4-dihydroquinazolin-5-yl)oxy]methyl}pyrrolidine-1-carboxylate (0.750 g, 52% yield):
