Procedure

To a solution of 2-chloro-4-(4-methyl-piperidin-1-yl)-5-nitro-pyrimidine (as prepared in the previous step) (257 mg, 1.00 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) was added 1-methyl piperazine (110 μL, 1.00 mmol). The resulting mixture was heated at 80° C. for 48 h. The reaction mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature and partitioned between water/EtOAc. The EtOAc layer was separated, dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated in vacuo. The residue obtained was purified on silica (0-10% MeOH:EtOAc) to obtain the title compound (192 mg, 63%). 1H-NMR (CDCl3; 400 MHz): δ 8.76 (s, 1H), 3.90 (br m, 6H), 2.96 (m, 2H), 2.40 (m, 4H), 2.32 (s, 3H), 1.82-1.6 (m, 3H), 1.2-1.3 (m, 2H), 1.02 (d, 3H, J=6.5 Hz).
