Procedure
A solution of 18.0 g of 2,3-dichloro-4-hydroxybenzophenone and 9.3 g of hydroxylamine hydrochloride in 100 ml of pyridine is refluxed for 2 hours. Thereafter, the pyridine is evaporated under vacuum and the residual liquid is partitioned between 5% hydrochloric acid and ethyl acetate. The ethylacetate extract is washed with water, dried, and evaporated to give 2,3-dichloro-4-hydroxy-benzophenone oxime.
