Procedure

The residue obtained in (A) was dissolved in 50 ml of methylene chloride, and 620 mg (2.87 mmol) of m-chloroperbenzoic acid (purity: 80%) was added. The mixture was stirred for 20 minutes. To the reaction solution, 30 ml of methylene chloride and a 5% sodium bi-carbonate aqueous solution were added. Then, the organic layer was distributed and washed with water and with a saturated sodium chloride aqueous solution. Then, it was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated to obtain a residue of the above-identified compound. The residue of the compound thus obtained was employed for the next reaction without purification.
