A mixture of 4-(1-hydroxytridecyl)-2-trimethylsilylfuran (318.5 mg, 0.9 mmol), sodium hydride (60% dispersion in oil; 150 mg, 3.8 mmol) and iodomethane (0.29 ml, 4.7 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (7 ml) was refluxed for 16 hr. On cooling, the mixture was diluted with ethyl ether (20 ml), quenched with methanol (2 ml) and washed with water. Evaporation of the dried (magnesium sulfate) organic phase gave a deep yellow oil, identified as 4-(1-methoxytridecyl)-2-trimethylsilyfuran.
