The product of step A is reacted with α-bromoacetophenone in benzene in the presence of potassium carbonate using the method of Example 1, step A, to provide white crystals of α-(4-chloro-2-naphthoxy)acetophenone after recrystallization from a dichloromethane-petroleum ether mixture.
