9.97 g (2 molar equivalents) of metformin hydrochloride, 8.34 g (2 molar equivalents) of potassium carbonate and 4.05 g (1 molar equivalent) of malate were stirred in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at 100° C., and then the produced inorganic salt was filtered. To the filtered solution, acetone was added dropwise and stirred at room temperature. The produced crystal was filtered and dried in hot air, thus obtaining 1.49 g (yield: 12.6%) of metformin malate.
