Procedure
4-(N-(4-methoxybenzyl)sulfamoyl)benzoic acid (Example 5-1b) (450, mg, 1.4 mmol), benzyl bromide (770 mg, 4.5 mmol), and cesium carbonate (1.5 g, 4.5 mmol) in DMF (10 mL) were stirred at 80° C. for 2 hours. The solution was cooled to room temperature, diluted with H2O (200 mL) and extract with ethyl acetate (3×, 100 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under vacuum. The residue was purified by silica gel chromotography (10% ethyl acetate in hexanes) to afford benzyl 4-(N-benzyl-N-(4-methoxybenzyl)sulfamoyl)benzoate (517 mg, 73%) as a white solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 3.76 (s, 3H), 4.28 (s, 2H), 4.32 (s, 2H0, 5.40 (s, 2H), 6.79 (d, J=8 Hz, 2H), 6.96 (d, J=8 Hz, 2H), 7.04-7.07 (m, 2H), 7.21-7.23 (m, 3H), 7.35-7.47 (m, 5H), 7.85 (d, J=8 Hz, 2H), 8.17 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H).
