1-[3-(acetylthio)-2-tert-butyloxycarbonylaminomethylpropanoyl]-L-proline-tert-butyl ester (1.5 g) is dissolved in a mixture of anisole (6 ml) and trifluoroacetic acid (12 ml) and the solution is stored at room temperature for 1 hour. The solvent is removed in vacuo, the residue is distributed between water and ether. The aqueous phase is washed twice with ether and freeze-dried to yield 1-(3-acetylthio-2-aminomethylpropanoyl)-L-proline.
