To a stirred solution of 2-(4-Amino-phenyl)-propionic acid ethyl ester (3.16 g) in acetone and water was added OXONE (10.0 g) and NaBr (6.75 g) at room temperature. After stirred for 2 minutes at room temperature, the reaction mixture was diluted with EtOAc and poured into 5% aq. Na2S2O3 solution. The organic layer was dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting residue was chromatographed on silica gel (n-Hex:EtOAc=6:1) to afford the product as white solid. (49.6%)
