To a solution of 3-{4-[(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]-1,2,5-oxadiazol-3-yl}-4-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5(4H)-one (1.0 g, 2.9 mmol) in ethyl acetate (8.5 mL) was added methanesulfonyl chloride (0.29 mL, 3.7 mmol) in one portion. The reaction was stirred for 5 minutes and triethylamine (0.52 mL, 3.7 mmol) was added, also in one portion. After stirring for an additional 10 minutes, the reaction was quenched with the addition of water (5 mL). The product was extracted with ethyl acetate (2×5 mL), dried over sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to give the desired product (1.2 g, 99%).
