A solution of 2-chloro-4-iodo-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridine (1.0 equiv.), (3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)methanamide (5.0 equiv.), and Et3N (5.0 equiv.) in NMP (0.7M) was microwaved to 100° C. for 10 min. The solution was directly purified via reverse phase HPLC, the pure fractions were neutralized with solid NaHCO3, extracted with EtOAc, dried with MgSO4, and concentrated to give N-(3,4-dimethoxybenzyl)-4-iodo-6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-2-amine in 36% yield. LCMS (m/z): 347.1 (MH+); LC Rt=3.96 min.
