Trifluoroacetic acid (1 mL) was added to a solution of tert-butyl (2R)-2-{2-(5-cyclopropyl-6-methoxypyridin-2-yl)-2-[4-(propan-2-yl)phenyl]ethyl}-5-oxopyrrolidine-1-carboxylate (211 mg) in methylene chloride (2 mL) under ice-cooling, and the mixture was stirred under ice-cooling for 75 minutes. Saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate was added to the reaction solution, followed by extraction with chloroform. The organic layer was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate and filtered, after which the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure to give (5R)-5-{2-(5-cyclopropyl-6-methoxypyridin-2-yl)-2-[4-(propan-2-yl)phenyl]ethyl}pyrrolidin-2-one (176.5 mg, quant.).
