To ethyl 7-(2-(4-isopropylpiperazin-1-yl)ethoxy)imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-3-carboxylate (5.68 g, 15.8 mmol) in water (30 mL) was added lithium hydroxide hydrate (0.67 g, 16.0 mmol). The reaction was heated to 95° C. for 4 hours. The reaction was cooled to ambient temperature and hydrogen chloride (0.0394 mL, 4M in dioxane) was added to the reaction mixture, which was stirred for 10 minutes. Water was removed under vacuum for overnight to give the title compound (5.43 g).
