Lithium 6-cyanoimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-3-carboxylate (138 mg, 0.7 mmol) was dissolved in anhydrous NMP (3.6 mL) and 2,4,6-trichlorobenzoyl chloride (115 mL, 0.7 mmol) added drop-wise. The mixture was stirred at ambient temperature for 30 minutes. 3-methyl-1-((6-methylpyridin-2-yl)methyl)-1H-indazol-4-amine (186 mg, 0.7 mmol) was then added in one portion and the reaction heated to 80° C. in a sand bath for 6 hours. Saturated sodium bicarbonate was added until precipitate formed and allowed to stir at ambient temperature for an hour. The precipitate was filtered off and dried under high vacuum for 2 hours to give 6-cyano-N-(3-methyl-1-((6-methylpyridin-2-yl)methyl)-1H-indazol-4-yl)imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-3-carboxamide as a beige solid (140 mg). MS m/z 422.3 (M+1, APCI+).
