N-(6-Methyl-5-nitro-pyridin-2-yl)-acetamide (0.5 g) was taken in 5 mL anhydrous DMF. 3 eq of K2CO3 and 3 eq of bromomethyl-cyclobutane were added and heated at 80° C. for 24 h. Water was added to the reaction and the mixture extracted with EtOAc (2X10 mL). The organic layer was washed with water and brine and dried over Na2SO4. Solvent was concentrated and the residue was purified over silica to give N-Cyclobutylmethyl-N-(6-methyl-5-nitro-pyridin-2-yl)-acetamide LCMS (m/z): 264.
