To a mixture of tert-butyl 2-{[3-methoxy-4-(4-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl]carbonyl}hydrazinecarboxylate (8.00 g) in ethyl acetate (50 mL) was added hydrogen chloride (4M ethyl acetate solution, 100 mL), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Ethyl acetate was added to the reaction mixture, and the precipitate was collected by filtration. The solid was recrystallized from methanol/ethyl acetate to give the title compound (5.94 g).
