A mixture of 7-chloro-6-nitrothieno[3,2-b]pyridine (0.21 g, 0.98 mmol) (Example 1, step 2), trans-cyclohexane-1,4-diamine (from Aldrich, 0.13 g, 1.2 mmol) and N,N-diisopropylethylamine (0.34 mL, 2.0 mmol) in isopropyl alcohol (3.3 mL) was heated at 90° C. for 2 h. The solvent in the resulting mixture was removed to give the desired product, which was used directly in the next step. LCMS calculated for C13H17N4O2S (M+H)+: m/z=293.1. Found: 293.0.
