3′-(2-Phenoxy-ethylsulfanylmethyl)-biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid was synthesized as described for 4′-(2-phenoxy-ethylsulfanylmethyl)-biphenyl-3-carboxylic acid. 3′-(2-Phenoxy-ethylsulfanylmethyl)-biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (2.0 g, 5.1 mmol, 1 eq.) in 30% aqueous THF was treated with lithium hydroxide (0.37 g, 15.3 mmol, 3 eq.). When complete, the reaction was worked up as described leaving 3′-(2-phenoxy-ethylsulfanylmethyl)-biphenyl-4-carboxylic acid (1.68 g, 90% yield) as a white solid.
