Methyl 1-methyl-4,5,6-trimethoxyindole-2-carboxylate (1.17 g) was dissolved in dry THF under an argon atmosphere at 0° C., a 1 M toluene solution (13.2 mL) of diisopropylaluminum bydride was added dropwise to the solution, and the mixture was stirred for 1 hour as it is. The reaction mixture was diluted with ether, the sodium sulfate decahydrate was added thereto, and the mixture was stirred further for 1 hour. After the reaction mixture was filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated, the residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (ethyl acetate:hexane=1:2 to 1:1) to obtain the title compound.
