9.4 g of 2,3-dihydroxypropylamine were added to a solution of 13.6 g of 4-oxo-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrobenzofuran in 200 cm3 of ethanol. The reaction medium was heated at 150° C. for 9 hours. After evaporation of the solvent and purification of the crude product on silica gel (ethyl acetate/methanol=9/1 ), 11.2 g of 4-oxo-4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1-N-(β,γ-dihydroxypropyl)indole were recovered in the form of an oil.
