CDI (82 mg, 0.51 mmol) is added to a solution of α-[2-(1,3-dihydro-1,3-dioxo-2H-isoindol-2-yl)ethyl]-3-(2-methylpropyl)-2-oxo-1-(2-phenylethyl)-3-pyrrolidineacetic acid (202 mg, 0.424 mmol) and CH2Cl2 (3.2 mL) at room temperature, and the solution is stirred for 1 hour at room temperature. O-Benzylhydroxylamine hydrochloride (98 mg, 0.614 mmol) and 4-methylmorpholine (84 uL, 0.76 mmol) are added in succession, and the solution is allowed to stir overnight at room temperature. Aqueous workup (CH2Cl2, MgSO4) and purification by column chromatography (2% acetene/CH2Cl2) gives 120 mg (49%) of the title compound as a colorless oil.
