A mixture of 75.5 (0.1 mmol), 6-(bromomethyl)-1,1,4,4-tetramethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene (0.12 mmol) and cesium carbonate (0.15 mmol) in DMF (2 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. To the reaction mixture was added LiOH in water (1 mL, 1N solution), and the reaction was stirred at 50° C. for 3 hours. The mixture was filtered and purified by reverse phase HPLC to give 75 (12 mg, 0.03 mmol) after lyophilization. MS ESI (pos.) m/e 434.2 (M+H). 1H NMR (500 MHz) (CDCl3) δ 7.94 (s, 1H); 7.31-7.41 (m, 3H); 7.22 (d, J=8.5 Hz, 2H); 6.99 (d, J=8.5 Hz, 2H); 6.87 (s, 1H); 4.99 (s, 2H); 4.58 (t, J=7.9 Hz, 1H); 3.14 (dd, J=16.5, 7.6 Hz, 1H); 2.99 (dd, J=16.5, 7.6 Hz, 1H); 1.72 (s, 4H); 1.31 (s, 12H).
