The coupling of 3-isopropylamino-5-phenyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (63.3 mg, 0.23 mmol) and 5-methyl-3,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-carboxylic acid (40 mg, 0.28 mmol) using PPh3 (78.6 mg, 0.3 mmol) and NCS (39.9 mg, 0.3 mmol) furnished 3-[isopropyl-(5-methyl-3,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-carbonyl)-amino]-5-phenyl-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (60 mg, 65.3% yield). NMR 1H (CDCl3, 400 MHz, for major rotamer): 7.68-7.62 (m, 2H), 7.4-7.5 (m, 3H), 7.22 (s, 1H), 5.46 (m, 1H), 3.86 (s, 3H), 1.48 (s, 3H), 1.24 (d, 3H), 1.0 (d, 3H)
