A 10 ml DMSO solution of tert-butyl [(1R)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethyl]{[(3R,4S)-4-phenylpyrrolidin-3-yl]methyl}carbamate was mixed with 1.3 g of potassium carbonate and 1.0 g of methyl 3,4,5-trifluorobenzoate and stirred overnight at 110° C. Thr reaction solution was mixed with ethyl acetate, washed with water and dried with anhydrous sodium sulfate. This was concentrated under a reduced pressure, and the thus obtained residue was purified by a silica gel column chromatography (hexane-ethyl acetate) to obtain 2.1 g of methyl 4-[(3R,4S)-3-({(tert-butoxycarbonyl)[(1R)-1-(1-naphthyl)ethyl]amino}methyl)-4-phenylpyrrolidin-1-yl]-3,5-difluorobenzoate as a colorless amorphous substance.
