2 g of 2-fluoro-5-nitrotoluene were added to a solution of 30 ml of N-methylpyrrolidinone, 2.29 g of N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine, and 1.72 g of triethylamine. The reaction medium was heated at 80° C. for 10 hours and, after cooling to room temperature, was poured into a water/ice mixture. The resulting medium was extracted with ethyl acetate and the organic phase was then concentrated under vacuum. 1.5 g of 2[[2-(4-nitro-2-methylphenylamino)ethyl]-(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]ethanol (17) were obtained.
