5 g of para-fluoronitrobenzene were added to a solution of 60 ml of N-methylpyrrolidinone, 6.29 g of N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine, and 4.3 g of triethylamine. The reaction medium was heated at 60° C. for 15 hours and, after cooling to room temperature, was poured into a water/ice mixture. A yellow precipitate formed, which was filtered off, reslurried in water, and then dried over P2O5. 7.5 g of 2-[[2-(4-nitrophenylamino)ethyl]-(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]ethanol (19) were obtained.
