3-Dimethylamino-1-(3-pyridyl)-2-propen-1-one (20 g, 0.1 μmol), 4-methyl-3-nitrophenyl-guanidine nitrate (32 g, 0.12 mol), and sodium hydroxide (6.8 g, 0.17 mol) were dissolved in isopropanol, and reacted under reflux for 28 hours. The reaction solution was cooled to 0° C., filtered, washed with isopropanol, water and ethanol, and dried to give N-(4-methyl-3-nitrophenyl)-4-(3-pyridyl)-2-pyrimidine-amine (32 g).
