0.26 ml of a 4N solution of hydrogen chloride in dioxane was added to a solution of 183 mg of 4-methyl-2-[2-(4-phenylbutyl)phenoxymethyl]morpholine [prepared as described in step (a) above] in 5 ml of ethyl acetate, and the resulting mixture was allowed to stand at room temperature. The crystals which precipitated were collected by filtration and dried in vacuo, to give 175 mg (yield 86%) of the title compound as colorless needles, melting at 135°-136° C.
