Procedure
Following a procedure similar to that described in Example 1(c), 1 ml of a 4N solution of hydrogen chloride in dioxane was added to a solution of 703 mg of 3-dimethylamino-1-{2-[4-(4-isopropylphenyl)butYl]phenoxy}-2-propanol [prepared as described in step (b) above] in 7 ml of ethyl acetate. The resulting mixture was concentrated by evaporation under reduced pressure, and the resulting oily residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate and allowed to stand. The crystals which precipitated were collected by filtration and dried in vacuo, to give 665 mg (yield 82%) of the title compound as colorless crystals, melting at 76°-77° C.
