Following a procedure similar to that described in Example 1(c), 0.24 ml of a 4N solution of hydrogen chloride in dioxane was added to a solution of 227 mg of N,N-dimethyl-3-{2-[4-(2-methoxyphenyl)butyl]phenoxy}propylamine [prepared as described in step (a) above] in 5 ml of ethyl acetate. The crystals which precipitated were collected by filtration and dried in vacuo, to give 120 mg (yield 48%) of the title compound as colorless crystals, melting at 130°14 133° C.
