Procedure
A solution of 185 mg of 2-{2-[4-(4-methoxyphenyl)butyl]phenoxymethyl}oxirane [prepared as described in Example 26(a)] and 96 mg of 1-phenylpiperazine in 5 ml of tetrahydrofuran was stirred at 60° C. for 24 hours. At the end of this time, the reaction mixture was concentrated by evaporation under reduced pressure. The oily residue thus obtained was purified by column chromatography through silica gel, using a 20:1 by volume mixture of methylene chloride and methanol as the eluent, to give 296 mg (yield 96%) of the title compound as a colorless oil.
