A mixture of 4,5-dimethyl-4-cyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride (10 g; 0.0555 mol), platinum dioxide (150 mg) and tetrahydrofuran (100 ml) was hydrogenated at room temperature for 8 hours. Precipitates were removed by filtration, and the filtrate was evaporated under reduced pressure to give 4,5-dimethylcyclohexene-1,2-dicarboxylic anhydride. IR νmaxFilm (cm-1): 1860, 1760.
