Procedure

Morpholine (2.3 ml) was added to a solution of (3-chloromethyl-benzyl)-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (Intermediate 5, 1.7 g) in THF (20 ml) and the mixture heated at reflux under nitrogen for 6 hours. Concentration of the reaction under vacuum gave N-tert-butyloxycarbonyl-3-(4-morpholinylmethyl)benzylamine (1.94 g).
