To a solution of 6-bromo-1-oxo-4-phenyl-1,2-dihydroisoquinoline-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (290 mg) in DMF (3 ml) was added sodium hydride (60% in oil, 36 mg) under ice-cooling, and the mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 1 hr. To the reaction mixture was added 2-chloro-5-chloromethylpyridine (160 mg) at room temperature, and the mixture was stirred for 2 hrs. Water was added to the reaction mixture, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine, and dried. The solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the obtained residue was crystallized from ethyl acetate to give the title compound (120 mg).
