1-Amino-2-methyl-propan-2-ol (0.408 g, 4.58 mmol) was added to a solution of methyl 2-(4-chlorophenyl)acrylate (0.300 g, 1.52 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (3.84 mL). The reaction was allowed to stir at room temperature overnight and produced crude methyl 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-(2-hydroxy-2-methylpropylamino)propanoate (436 mg, 100%). LCMS: M+1 286.5.
